Dear Friends,
All of us, no doubt, have a collection of memories of Easter. Some of them, having to do with a new outfit to wear to church or finding the “golden egg” that meant a special prize. Or perhaps, we remember something quite profound – a realization of how deep Jesus’ love for us runs and how willing he was to reveal it.
As to the first Easter and the events leading up to it, there are thousands of interpretations that have surfaced over the years, many of them presented as “this is what really happened.”
In our Easter message we ask you to be willing to set aside the prevailing thoughts around Holy Week like “the agony in the garden” or “Judas’ betrayal” or God’s “sacrificing” His Son to save us from our sins. By doing so, we open ourselves to a deeper appreciation for and understanding of the Resurrection and its personal meaning for us.
There is great joy and power in Truth – power to live a more meaningful life and one filled with joy and peace. Our hope is that we may all avail ourselves anew of this Truth just as our Wayshower, Jesus, intended and intends still. He is risen and ever present to us to show us the way to this glorious God-centered life.
Happy Easter!
We love you,
Rev. Steve and Mary
Going Deeper with our Easter 2022 message
If you would like to take this message deeper, here are two questions you can work with. Use these in your own self-reflection or in discussion with others.
- How does the metaphor of “the removal of the stone” apply in your own life?
- Is the fuller experience of “resurrection” worth the effort to move it? If so, how can you move it?
We would love to read your thoughts in the comments below.
