Dear Spiritual Family,

Do you remember singing The Greatest Thing? It has been a Unity favorite for many years. The verses are: The greatest thing in all my life is knowing you. The greatest thing in all my life is loving you and the greatest thing in all my life is serving you.

It can be thought of as a song to God, a song to family and friends, even a song to the world. Anyone of us would consciously seek to know God more, to love God more and to serve God more fully. Interestingly, as we, intently, want to know others more deeply – to understand them through deep listening as referenced in last week’s written message, we are better able to love them and our desire to authentically serve mankind is fulfilled. And how might we strengthen these intentions?

Jesus offers in A Course in Miracles, Chapter 7, Section V.: “Come therefore, unto me, and learn of the truth in you. The mind we share is shared by all our brothers (and sisters), and as we see them truly they will be healed. Let your mind shine with mine upon their minds, and by our gratitude to them make them aware of the light in them. This light will shine back upon you and on the whole Sonship, because it is your proper gift to God.”

Revered Vietnamese Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hahn in his book, Going Home – Jesus and Buddha as Brothers, offers in Chapter 6 – Sending Your Heart Along with the Sound, using the bell, (in today’s message, we use a chime), to “send our heart” in the loving words of this modern mystic.

Breathe in: Body, speech and mind in perfect oneness.

Breathe out: I send my heart along with the sound of this bell.

Breathe in: May the hearers awaken from their forgetfulness

Breathe out:  and transcend the path of all anxiety and sorrow.

“After you have recalled these four lines of the poem, you become calm, you become solid and you have the right to strike the bell.”

Then, you “invite the bell to sound.”

When we claim the Divine assistance from Jesus or the Buddha, the Holy Spirit or other Masters, we can experience what might be called Spiritual synergy. Our willingness to express our Divine Nature is multiplied many times over.

Our collective desire to know, love and serve is deeply blessed by our Creator for it is indeed needed to quicken the great awakening that patiently waits for us to answer the call.

Holding you in this Love,

Rev. Steve and Mary
