Dear Spiritual Family,
Mary opens the video message, sharing one of Myrtle Fillmore’s very rich stories found in Torch-Bearer to Light the Way by Neal Vahle. Myrtle was told by an angel in a very lucid dream, that she would find God within. This revelation surely helped the miraculous healing of her body, leading to the beginning of the Unity Movement – a movement that, as you know, has blessed millions of lives.
Dr. Emilie Cady was proving these truths in her work over a century ago. She may not have suspected they would be so needed in the century to come and yet she knew, without doubt that these truths, these unbending principles were as perennial as the grass and would bring hope and healing in any situation. Indeed, they would bring, when applied with intention and consistency, peace and freedom to our very Spirit.
SO HOW DO WE DISCERN A GREAT TRUTH?
In Cady’s book, How I Used Truth, we read: “Nothing is real except the eternal, that which is based on the real substance-God-that which can never be changed or made less by any external circumstances whatever.”
What lies at the heart of our greatest fear is that of death? Our deaths. The death of loved ones and of others, near or far.
Many of you have heard Mary and me, over the years refer to a simple but powerful song, You Can’t Die, written by a dear friend, the late, Rev. Bud Moore – a long-serving Methodist minister and fine musician, a dedicated husband and father. As a student of truth, Bud totally got it, that we are eternal beings.
From the song: You can’t die. You can’t die. No matter how you try. You’re gonna live forever, no matter what you do. You can jump from a movin’ train. You can crash in an aeroplane. You can kiss the world goodbye, but you can’t die.
Some 2300 years earlier, the same Truth is found in the Bhagavad Gita, (of the Self) – “The sword cannot cleave it. Fire cannot burn it. Water cannot wet it and the wind cannot dry it.”
And some 25 years after Dr. Cady had stepped away from that incarnation, the wisdom of A Course in Miracles begins with – “Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.”
Spiritual maturity calls for us to be mindful in how we express this understanding. An example could be if someone has just experienced the sudden passing of a loved one. We let our words and deeds, grounded in Truth, be guided by empathy and compassion and a respect for where that individual is in consciousness. We hold the Truth within our being and trust the Holy Spirit to guide us in what to say and in what to do.
Truth never hardens the heart; it strengthens the heart. And from our empowered hearts, we proclaim the goodness of God, the Allness of God, the Love of God to the world.
As we deeply affirm, “I AM worthy to be in this ‘Band’ of Believers, to be a Bringer of Light,” we can hear and feel the Holy Spirit’s words, “Yes!” “Yes, you are!” “Shine on!”
We love you,
Rev. Steve and Mary
