Dear Spiritual Family,
What is “Advent?” A more generic definition of “Advent” is “a season of the church year that lasts for four weeks, and, is a time of preparation for Christmas.” Another is “the coming of Christ.”
In Unity, we focus on the four, traditional themes for each Advent Week beginning with “faith and hope” and then “peace, love and joy” for weeks two, three, and four.
Now let’s be clear, these must be taken in order. You’re not permitted to feel peaceful until next week and no love, absolutely none, until week three. Then, and only then, can you let joy reign again in your life! 😊🤣😊
Mystically speaking, the arrival of Jesus the Christ represents the great gift of the Great Example. Jesus came to show us Who and Whose we are!
On this First Sunday of Advent, we focus on faith in the unchanging Christ – the ever-consistent and all-pervading Christ Consciousness that Jesus embodied. He took birth to show us what is not only possible but what is thankfully, inevitable. As one old, hippie friend of mine from my early days in ministry used to say, “Rev. Steve, the way I see it is, we’re all ‘doomed’ to peace.”
Many mystics through the centuries have taught that awakening to this abiding Peace is quickened in this Season of Advent. It is the coming into our greater awareness of the indwelling Christ that each of us, by whatever name we know it, is!
And the really Good News is Jesus, who was born in Bethlehem, is with us every step of the way. So “Come, All Ye Faithful, joyful and triumphant” to welcome this Advent Season. Come and celebrate the birth of our precious Wayshower and the reality of his message to each of us!
We love you,
Rev. Steve and Mary
