Dear Spiritual Family,
To all our fathers and father figures – Happy Father’s Day! And to everyone else – Happy Father’s Day Weekend. And to You, Our Father, Thank You!
Each of us has a unique “story” to tell about our fathers, step-fathers, father-in-laws, and other father figures. Sometimes, whether they are still here in earthly form or have moved to the next phase of living, those stories can be difficult. Perhaps we are or have been estranged from these men. Perhaps we didn’t have the opportunity to complete with them before they transitioned. Ideally, the relationship is or was one that was closer to ideal. We have learned in our four decades in ministry that each person’s situation is different.
One of the great benefits in the realm of spiritual understanding, is that it offers among other great gifts, the gift of reframing our past and present experiences.
For example, when my (Rev. Steve’s) dad transitioned after a very difficult illness, I was living over two hours away. When I got the call from my brother-in-law in the middle of the night, I jumped into my automobile and headed out to the hospital. In my rush, I ran out of gas just two or three miles from my exit. As sunrise approached, I was able to flag down a ride. The gentleman, an obvious angel in human form, drove me to the hospital, waited while I went in and returned me to my car with gas to move on. It was some time before I found peace around the chaos of that day.
Through the wisdom of reframing, I have seen my dad’s spirit hovering close as I moved through that experience. I have heard him, whispering to the fellow, “pull over and help this young man out.” And most of all, I know, through my spiritual growth, that there is only life and we can always give love to and receive love from those beings we choose to be in communion with. Truth be known, I think my father has had a few good laughs about his son, Steve, taking himself too seriously on that occasion. 😊😊
As you focus this Father’s Day Week on your life and “what you may wish to see differently or what you may choose to have more peace around,” you’re encouraged to draw on the deep well of your spiritual foundation.
Perhaps, you simply want to feel closer, even more grateful for your father or father figure. Whatever may be perfect for you, open your mind and heart to the guidance of the indwelling Christ that you are and see where It takes you. To be willing to see in a way that lightens is a true act of love.
Heavenly Father, our Creator, we love You. We thank You for fashioning each of us in the Image of You – the Image of Love that is eternal and unconditional.
To each of you, dear Spiritual Family – for growing in the awareness that we are all truly One, thank you!
We Love You,
Rev. Steve and Mary
