Dear Spiritual Family,
In 1886, the Co-Founder of the Unity Movement, Myrtle Fillmore had been given only a short time to live when she heard the words that totally changed the direction of her life. “You are a Child of God and therefore you do not inherit disease!” She heard the words and more than that she felt them resonate throughout her entire being.
The first Principle of Unity describes our Creator – All Presence, all Power and All Knowledge. The second, our relationship to God – His Child. The third – “My life is shaped by my dominant thoughts and feelings.” Through prayer and meditation – Principle four – Myrtle fully embraced these ideas and the complete healing of her mind and body were the result. Her husband, Charles, seeing this transformation before his own eyes, found healing as well.
Without Myrtle Fillmore’s whole-souled acceptance of our true Relationship to God, there would be no Unity as we know it today. Her healing and that of Charles was not instantaneous; it required great dedication to living these Truths – Principle Five. It also required a letting go of old, worn-out beliefs of lack, limitation and powerlessness.
Wherever we may find ourselves in the unfolding of our lives, we can rest assured that the quality and beauty and power of these Divine Ideas are always available to us. The question becomes, “Am I available to them?” And if so, “will I embrace them as fully as possible?” “Am I willing, as the Fillmores did, to ask for help from our Wayshower, Jesus or the Holy Spirit to let go of the past in order to be fully present to these life-changing Principles?”
We may not have a “movement” to found but each of us has a Divine Life to live – to let God use us to bless and enrich the lives of those around us. As we do, we are twice-blessed – in the giving and in the receiving of the Father’s Love as His Precious Child.
In That Love,
Rev. Steve and Mary
