Dear Spiritual Family,
Rumi was on to something when he penned the words almost eight hundred years ago, “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about. Ideas, language, even the phrase ‘each other,’ doesn’t make any sense.”
Jesus said it this way, in the modern age, through A Course in Miracles, “Forgive and you will see this differently.” Or, “Forgive and this will disappear.” So what is the “this” in these last two sentences? It is whatever is making us feel separate from God and from each other and from the Indwelling Christ, our Self. The “field” that Rumi refers to is the Kingdom of Heaven, the holy place where we all truly belong.
But to experience it, we must give up judgment or holding grievances or being unforgiving. Is this easy in today’s world? No. It’s not easy. It’s simple but not easy. It takes work. It takes commitment. And it takes asking for help from the Holy Spirit or the Buddha Nature – or whatever description of the Divine you might prefer. It is asking the Allness of God for help to see and do, and be what matters most.
Is the reward commensurate with the effort? Oh yes, and more – the Holy Gifts that wait for us are far beyond our fondest dreams. One way to describe these Gifts is Oneness, another is Joy, and another is Peace.
And what of Love? The answer lies in the teachings of A Course in Miracles: “Forgiveness removes the blocks to the awareness of Love’s Presence.” It allows us to deeply experience the Love That is What we are, past all appearances to the contrary.
In this same work, we find, “A universal religion is impossible, but a universal experience is not only possible but necessary.” We gain access to that very experience when we let go of grievances. When we forgive, our hearts open and Love’s healing waters flow like a mighty river, bringing hope and renewal and happiness. This is God’s plan for His Children. It is our way – Home.
We love you,
Rev. Steve and Mary
Thank you so much for this. It was just what I needed today.
