Dear Spiritual Family,
If you’re one of our more “seasoned” family members, you will remember the hit television series, “To Tell the Truth.” There, a panel of four celebrities would attempt to tell which one of the contestants was telling the truth. Sometimes the panel agreed and at other times, they did not. The impersonators could often be very convincing.
Jesus was and is a Truth-teller, with a capital “T.” We often think of him when we hear or read his words from John 8:32, “And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” But what truth was he speaking of?
Dr. Eckhart Tolle in A New Earth, speaks about it this way: “There is only one absolute Truth, and all other truths emanate from it. When you find that Truth, your actions will be in alignment with it. Human action can reflect Truth, or it can reflect illusion. Can the Truth be put into words? Yes, but of course the words are not it. They only point the way to it. The Truth is inseparable from who you are. Yes, you are the Truth. If you look for it elsewhere, you will be deceived every time.”
We are spiritual Beings, made in the image and likeness of God. That is the Truth. To begin to believe it requires a paradigm shift in consciousness. To “find it” in Tolle’s words is the experience of metanoia, the ancient Greek term for a deep spiritual shift in consciousness. The Apostle Paul in Romans 12: 2 said, “Do not conform to the ways of the world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” He was asking for the acceptance of a quantum shift in the thinking of his followers.
We have a tendency to conform to our prevailing beliefs about ourselves, about others and the world around us. It is a significant “ask” to shift from “I’m only human” to “I am a human being having a spiritual experience.” It is a greater ask to say and do one’s best to believe, “I am a spiritual Being ‘impersonating’ a human having a spiritual experience!” And a quantum experience of metanoia to accept “I am the Truth, I Am as God created me!”
A struggle? At times, yes. Work? Absolutely. Lured back into the illusion of separation sometimes? Certainly.
But imagine Jesus, the Buddha and Lao Tzu sitting together as you stand before them and try to convince them that you are something other than the Real You. They, with eyes of Wisdom and hearts of Love, look right past all appearances and declare, “To tell the Truth, You, Beloved, ARE the Truth. You are Spirit. You are the Love that frees the world! You are Love.
Now go forth and pretend no more!”
This is no idle fantasy. Divine help, Divine knowing is always present and often expresses Itself through a joyful sense of humor! Thank You God.
To tell the Truth, we sure love you,
Rev. Steve and Mary
